About Me

I offer psychotherapy to couples and individuals in Seattle, Washington. I also run a therapy group for men in divorce. I use emotion-focused therapy grounded in a person-centered approach and informed by interpersonal neurobiology. I am committed to offering psychotherapy of the highest possible integrity. We know that the bond between client and therapist is the most important single factor in successful therapy. For this reason, I make every effort to ensure that you feel not only safe and supported in our therapeutic relationship but, more, that you feel free to explore even the most challenging parts of your own experience with me. This freedom to range into all territories of the psyche yields, I believe, the greatest possible healing. I hold degrees from Yale University, Binghamton University, and the University of Washington, in addition to an M.A. in Psychology from Antioch University Seattle. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in the fields of music, sustainability, and nonviolence. I have practiced Zen since 1994, including a period of intensive monastic training in 2002. I have written columns, essays, and a book across all of these topics. I am author of "Our Tragic Flaw: A Case for Nonviolence" (2008).
